Our dentists want to give patients the chance to take smiling for granted again. Not to say that anyone considering restorative dentistry ever would! Simply, we understand how easily insecurity can fill the void of missing teeth. With dental implants, we offer the people of Houston a way to bring back the confidence they once had in their smiles.
At the dental practice of Dr. Charles E. Sutherland, your personal needs are matched with a uniquely tailored treatment plan. Open lines of communication, compassion, and expertise mark both of our office locations. Before scheduling a visit with us, please read on to learn more about whether dental implants are right for you!
Dental implants look, feel, and function like real teeth. In collaboration with a nearby oral surgeon, our practice offers you the highest quality solutions in the implant dentistry field.
Different types of dental implants are available to our Houston patients, depending on individual patient needs. Here we provide an overview of the traditional placement procedure, which requires two surgeries.
First, the oral surgeon places a metal post or titanium rod into the jawbone underlying the missing tooth or teeth. The successfully embedded anchor will serve as an artificial root for the new tooth to come.
Next, your gums heal, and the jawbone bonds to the previously inserted post or screw. This healing process between surgeries, called osseointegration, takes three to six months.
Finally, Dr. Sutherland, Dr. Albers, or Dr. Fleschler will carefully attach a custom-crafted prosthetic tooth. This is done by re-exposing the post and screwing the metal connector holding the artificial tooth into place.
Our dentists conduct a thorough evaluation of each patient’s medical history to determine who is truly an ideal candidate. After all, you are our top priority! We know that although the success rate of placing dental implants in Houston is high, there are still risks, as this is indeed a surgery.
Potential risks include:
Fortunately, most complications can be resolved expeditiously. Our satisfied patients say this is yet another reason to opt for dental implants. Ideal candidates can focus on reaping the benefits, such as well-functioning teeth that not only look natural, but are resilient to stains! With a regiment of proper hygiene, dental implants can last a lifetime.
View them as an alternative to other forms of restoration, such as removable bridgework and dentures.
